This won’t surprise anyone who’s been on my blog in the past few months but it has actually surprised me. Less than 10% of the images you see below are digital. If you do the math, that means 90% of my favorite images from 2011 were shot on film. Which I must confess makes me pretty darn proud. If you remember from the longest post ever, I shared earlier this year that I really wanted to learn to shoot film but was terrified. I had no idea where to start and I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t be using it to shoot weddings anytime soon. And here we are eight months and 90% later. I have so many people to thank for this. Seriously, the number of text messages, direct messages and facebook messages I have sent in regards to film this year is embarrassing. But the whole process reminds me a whole lot of where I was three years ago when I discovered what I wanted to do with my life.

So if I could sum that all up in one post, what would it look like? I didn’t want this to just be a look back at what I did in 2011, but instead what I fell in love with.

Chelsea’s middle name is Victoria and she has always been in love with the beauty and classicism of the Victorian Era. Being a photographer herself, Chelsea knew she wanted her wedding imagery to tell a timeless story and I am so flattered she and Sean chose me to tell it. My dear friend and past bride, Sarah Tucker from Fairy Tales Are True recently launched a wedding style and coordination business! I could not be more thrilled for her or more excited to work together in this new and exciting capacity. Naturally the first order of business was to shoot! So we put our heads together and here’s what we came up with:

The theme was a New Years Day Wedding Brunch set on the mossy grounds of the waterfront Phillippi Estate built in 1916. It is a little secret gem on the West Coast of Florida and I am dying for brides to get a little look at this venue!  Sarah did a phenomenal job putting this together in just a couple weeks and all of it was done with a budget-friendly DIY bride in mind I hope you enjoy it!

I snapped a few of Sarah prepping the shoot to finish off the existing film in my cameras and the results were just too adorable not to share.

Spending the wedding day with these two and their families at The Boca Raton Resort was such a joy and I’m really excited to share these photographs from their day with you! Shot both on film and digitally.

They get it.

From the perfect venue to the dreamy color palette, Heather’s style and grace was evident in every element of the day. She even designed the invites, programs and menus with one of her bridesmaids. Every decision and detail was meticulously considered and executed beautifully without ever losing sight of the reason for the day: she and Billy were committing their lives to one another before God and their loved ones. It was the perfect wedding.

For me, this wedding strikes a cord, not only because it was a dream to shoot but because of the purity in their love, the history of how I came to shoot it, and the fact that it was the first wedding at which I shot a significant amount of film. I was unsure of what the results would be but when I got the scans back, I knew it was love. Only four images in this post were shot digitally and it feels like I’m finally home.
