When Debby initially contacted me to photograph her wedding, I had no idea what I was in for. Her adorable groom, gorgeous location and hysterical wedding guests made December 10th a day I will never forget. I can safely say it was one of the best parties I have ever been to (like top 3). If you are a friend of James & Debby you should consider yourself extremely lucky because these two know how to have fun and that’s exactly what happened on the day they got married.

I am not much of a party-pic-poster but these were too ridiculous not to share, in slideshow form.

Randy & Stefanie’s Powel Crosley Estate Wedding

Stef and Randy are high-school sweethearts who have known they were made for each-other since day one. They wanted their wedding to be outdoors, laid back, and tons of fun. Both from a coastal town in Southwest Florida they wanted the old Florida feel to be a part of their day. When it came to picking the place their first choice was The Powel Crosley Estate in Sarasota. When Randy and Stef first started dating as teenagers they went to a play there and we were both so blown away with the mansion’s understated elegance to it and its beautiful location on the incandescent Sarasota Bay.

I already know what you’re thinking. How does Jessica Lorren consistently get such beautiful brides? I can’t even count how many times I meet with a bride for the first time and have to pick my jaw up off of the floor. Jamie was one of those, AND brilliant and sweet. And she goes mudding. She’s the total package for a guy’s guy like Dustin and they’re perfect together. Their wedding at The Addison was everything I love about weddings. Laid back, outdoors, intimate with great food and a gorgeous venue.

I made it. 2011 marked year three for JL and what a year it was. Easily the toughest year of my life but arguably the best. Funny how that works. Through it, I’ve learned so much about my business, my relationships and myself and I know without a doubt that I am a stronger person. So get ready 2012 because you’re going to be even better!

This won’t surprise anyone who’s been on my blog in the past few months but it has actually surprised me. Less than 10% of the images you see below are digital. If you do the math, that means 90% of my favorite images from 2011 were shot on film. Which I must confess makes me pretty darn proud. If you remember from the longest post ever, I shared earlier this year that I really wanted to learn to shoot film but was terrified. I had no idea where to start and I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t be using it to shoot weddings anytime soon. And here we are eight months and 90% later. I have so many people to thank for this. Seriously, the number of text messages, direct messages and facebook messages I have sent in regards to film this year is embarrassing. But the whole process reminds me a whole lot of where I was three years ago when I discovered what I wanted to do with my life.

So if I could sum that all up in one post, what would it look like? I didn’t want this to just be a look back at what I did in 2011, but instead what I fell in love with.

Sean & Chelsea’s Victorian Inspired Fairy Tale Wedding

We all know the fairy tales about the beautiful princess marrying her handsome prince but how many of us actually get to witness it in real life? I know it sounds cliche, but to me, Sean & Chelsea’s wedding felt just like a real-life fairy tale.

Chelsea’s middle name is Victoria and she has always been in love with the beauty and classicism of the Victorian Era. Being a photographer herself, Chelsea knew she wanted her wedding imagery to tell a timeless story and I am so flattered she and Sean chose me to tell it. New Years Day Wedding Brunch Reception Ideas at The Phillippi Estate with Sarah Tucker

I am elated to finally be sharing this sweet little inspiration session on the blog today!

My dear friend and past bride, Sarah Tucker from Fairy Tales Are True recently launched a wedding style and coordination business! I could not be more thrilled for her or more excited to work together in this new and exciting capacity. Naturally the first order of business was to shoot! So we put our heads together and here’s what we came up with:

The theme was a New Years Day Wedding Brunch set on the mossy grounds of the waterfront Phillippi Estate built in 1916. It is a little secret gem on the West Coast of Florida and I am dying for brides to get a little look at this venue! Sarah did a phenomenal job putting this together in just a couple weeks and all of it was done with a budget-friendly DIY bride in mind I hope you enjoy it!

Del & Heather’s Island Destination Wedding

I love destination weddings. Being in South Florida, I actually get to shoot quite a few. Heather and Del came all the way from Colorado to celebrate their wedding in Marco Island. I have to hand it to them, the white sand did make a pretty awesome backdrop for the bride and groom portraits. That is my absolute favorite part of any wedding day and I was feeling especially inspired for this one. So this post is a little portrait heavy but they just make me swoon so I had to share. Natural Beach Chic Wedding Inspiration on Film

I love fresh inspiration for Beach Weddings. Living and working here in Florida can make a creative type like myself pretty jaded when it comes to Seaside Weddings. I see the same things wedding after wedding and to be honest every time that happens my heart sinks a little deeper inside my chest. It’s not that those weddings are not beautiful, they are, its more that they’re not personalized. They dont reflect anything unique to that couple. I think that our sweet Florida brides are truly limited on the vendors, details and inspiration they need to make their big days truly one of a kind. That’s why I took it upon myself to put together the Seaside Wedding Inspiration Shoot this spring and more recently, to join Every Last Detail and Glamour and Grace for their Natural Beach Chic Wedding Inspiration Shoot. These girls collaborated with each other and some incredibly talented vendors for this shoot and here’s the outcome, shot all on film.
