My Favorite Photographs | 2011

I made it. 2011 marked year three for JL and what a year it was. Easily the toughest year of my life but arguably the best. Funny how that works. Through it, I’ve learned so much about my business, my relationships and myself and I know without a doubt that I am a stronger person. So get ready 2012 because you’re going to be even better!

This won’t surprise anyone who’s been on my blog in the past few months but it has actually surprised me. Less than 10% of the images you see below are digital. If you do the math, that means 90% of my favorite images from 2011 were shot on film. Which I must confess makes me pretty darn proud. If you remember from the longest post ever, I shared earlier this year that I really wanted to learn to shoot film but was terrified. I had no idea where to start and I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t be using it to shoot weddings anytime soon. And here we are eight months and 90% later. I have so many people to thank for this. Seriously, the number of text messages, direct messages and facebook messages I have sent in regards to film this year is embarrassing. But the whole process reminds me a whole lot of where I was three years ago when I discovered what I wanted to do with my life.

So if I could sum that all up in one post, what would it look like? I didn’t want this to just be a look back at what I did in 2011, but instead what I fell in love with.

A selection of the images you see above were photographed while second shooting for Ali Harper, Kat Braman and Jason Mize

Randy & Stefanie’s Powel Crosley Estate Wedding

Stef and Randy are high-school sweethearts who have known they were made for each-other since day one. They wanted their wedding to be outdoors, laid back, and tons of fun. Both from a coastal town in Southwest Florida they wanted the old Florida feel to be a part of their day. When it came to picking the place their first choice was The Powel Crosley Estate in Sarasota. When Randy and Stef first started dating as teenagers they went to a play there and we were both so blown away with the mansion’s understated elegance to it and its beautiful location on the incandescent Sarasota Bay.

Gillian & David’s Palm Beach Engagement Session

Well folks, it just doesnt get a whole lot cuter than these two. I could have seriously photographed these two for hours. As it was, I definitely overshot this session but I could not contain myself. The cuteness just took over. Even just deciding which ones to blog was a bit overwhelming. Gillian and David brought along so many fun items to stage their shoot based around their holiday season wedding this year at The Powel Crosley Estate. I will keep some of those a secret but for now, take a gander at this cute-overload. All film.

Brittany - thank you for making my cousin (David) and Gillian soon to be in our family, beautiful!!!

Kasey D <<< South Florida Wedding Style & Coordination

There aren’t many things that make a wedding photographer happier than working with friends, clients and vendors that have great style and vision. So when those opportunities present themselves my only answer is yes. That’s what happened when my beautiful friend Kasey D asked me to come down to Delray Beach and photograph her new office and shoot some portraits for her website. So I did, ALL on film. ALL with my contax. 400H & Portra 800.

jessica sloane - i adore her office!!!January 9, 2012 – 2:58 pm

Debra Eby - You are such a true artist! These are stunning. You turn the details and simple moments into something spectacular. Thanks for sharing your imagery with the rest of us. <3January 9, 2012 – 12:19 pm

Jamie & Dustin’s Wedding at The Addison Boca Raton

I already know what you’re thinking. How does Jessica Lorren consistently get such beautiful brides? I can’t even count how many times I meet with a bride for the first time and have to pick my jaw up off of the floor. Jamie was one of those, AND brilliant and sweet. And she goes mudding. She’s the total package for a guy’s guy like Dustin and they’re perfect together. Their wedding at The Addison was everything I love about weddings. Laid back, outdoors, intimate with great food and a gorgeous venue.

Contax 645 and EOS 3, Fuji 400H and Neopan 400.

Bunn Salarzon - I love everything about this wedding– down to the bride’s shoes! Wish I was a fly on the wall that day. :) January 21, 2012 – 11:07 pm
